Materials & Procurement Manager

Full-time · Austin, TX

Backyard Pod is seeking a detail-oriented and resourceful Materials & Procurement Manager. This hybrid role prepares comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOM), develops accurate material budgets, sources materials and equipment, and ensures timely, cost-effective delivery of all project resources. The ideal candidate is both analytical and communicative — able to build strong vendor relationships while keeping tight control over material costs, with a strong knowledge of residential construction processes.

Estimating & budgeting

  • Develop detailed, accurate Bills of Materials (BOM) for each project from construction plans, specifications, and scopes of work
  • Build and maintain project-specific materials budgets, aligned with overall project financial goals
  • Collaborate with project managers and design teams so every material selection is accounted for and budgeted accurately

Procurement & sourcing

  • Source and secure materials, fixtures, and equipment based on client selections and architectural plans
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and lead times with vendors to achieve cost savings and ensure quality standards
  • Procure both standard and custom materials, adapting quickly to changes in scope or client preferences

Logistics & delivery coordination

  • Coordinate material deliveries to job sites, via internal personnel or direct vendor drops
  • Monitor delivery schedules to prevent job-site delays or material shortages
  • Track and confirm delivery receipts and resolve any discrepancies

Cost monitoring & vendor management

  • Monitor material costs in real time and identify variances from project budgets
  • Maintain up-to-date records of pricing, purchase orders, and vendor performance
  • Build and sustain positive vendor relationships for long-term reliability and favorable pricing

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in residential construction estimating and/or procurement
  • Strong knowledge of residential building materials and construction processes
  • Excellent negotiation and vendor-management skills
  • Proficiency in construction estimating software and spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets, etc.)
  • Exceptional organizational and communication abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and specifications
